I have a Vauxhall Astra 1.6 51 reg which is making a loud ticking noise when I start up which quietens after?

car has done 83,000 miles and had a new cam belt kit within last 12 months. very reliable but noise is annoying. My mate say I should get it checked? can anyone advise?|||Sounds like one of the hydraulic tappets isn't filling up with oil right away. If left for a long time it'll eventually end up with you having to get it fixed. It's not a massive job but it does entail opening up the cylinder head.

Probably worth an oil change to see if that cures it, and if the car doesn't get many long runs, take it for a good 100 mile blast, you'll be surprised how many minor faults can be cured in a city-bound car by a long hard run up a motorway.|||It is the hydraulic cam followers one has gone weak. have you changed the engine oil if not then do so.

Also take the top of the rocker cover and look for wear on the cam shaft common problem on the vauxhall range. You can either replace the followers or go to a parts dealer and they do sell a addative to put in the oil to semi fix small hydraulic problems.|||probably a leaking hydraulic cam follower , problem is you will find it difficult to pinpoint which one it is, one for each valve your engine has, but as long as oil light isnt coming on then no need to worry|||Check the tappets, maybe one of them needs adjusting.
