Why should there be any redundancies at Vauxhall?

The US have finally decided that new cars have to meet emissions standards and give a higher return to the gallon. Vauxhall/Opel have been producing cars which not only fit this requirement for some time and look good to boot.

It might require some extra tooling but let's bring them up to US spec and start exporting!|||Nothing's been announced, you have to wait to see what Magna decide (the Canadian company that's buying GM)

It's good to export, because you find foreign money coming into your country, which is a good thing.

Vauxhall has some great cars (even Jeremy Clarkson has swung around to them), but remember that American styling and taste is different to European.

USA gallons are on 6 pints, our UK gallons at bigger at 8 pints, so don't just compare MPG vs MPG because the two Gs represent different things.

If Vauxhall could reinvent themselves as an EV car manufacturer, there'd be reasonable take up from USA.

America distrusts non American cars, and in the current economic climate are making every effort to buy American products. Cars are very cheap in USA, and imported British cars are very expensive by comparison. The volatility of the 拢:$ rate will make prices fluctuate unpredictably. We can't compete in that market.
